If any of you watch Glee, you have seen their cover of a song called Landslide. I've heard that this song was originally written by Fleetwood Mac, but I know if from the Dixie Chicks. And I really loveD that song. I say this in past tense because today I had the unfortunate experience of watching the music video. Hello 90s! The only good thing that came out of that decade was me. If you haven't seen this video, lucky you. But watch it anyway:
Dixie Chicks - Landslide
So I'd like to say a few things about this:
1. The lead singers hair looks like an electrocuted feline, and she bears an uncanny resemblance to Busy Phillips aka Audrey Liddell from Dawson's Creek. And what is up with her make up? I'm sorry, is that eye shadow or did someone just punch you on both eyelids? Probably the second.
2. The special effects. Well, special is definitely the perfect word. I hate when movies/music videos whatever try to zoom in on that single rain drop or tear. I feel like whenever that glistening moisture comes onto the camera, you might as well have thrown on your favorite leather jacket and water skied over a great white with your thumbs up. To me, that becomes the death of reality. But sadly, the drop is the least of my worries when it comes to the vast desert with those trees(?) is the background. I'm just waiting for Sue the T-Rex to poke her head into the screen. You realize there ARE plants in the desert right? Oh and the waterfall whose water is flowing upwards to a heaven that is just water? What the crap does that mean? Then she climbs the stairs to heaven and closes the door (cause heaven has doors) and she is stuck standing on a single rock the size of her foot in the middle of an "ocean" of water. Personally, I would rather take the raptor infested desert.
3. Then there's the brunette. Is she cock-eyed or not? She's sitting there playing her "guitar" and then she's pregnant? Then she goes to the watery heaven with Busy Phillips! Come on lady you're preggers! You can seriously think that you're going to stand on a tiny ass rock all day singing about landslides?
I think I've said enough for the night, but sometimes I just don't understand the stories behind these songs! What the hell does it have to do with fugly trees, a broken waterfall, a city, valley, and a desert? Oh and a heaven made up of the Pacific! I've read the lyrics, and I'm at a loss. If anyone has any ideas feel free to comment, or if you want me to see any other horrible videos, you can comment on that too. I will say this for the Dixie Chicks, at least they aren't making David Hasslehoff music videos.

Landslide was written by Stevie Nicks. It's about growing older.
ReplyDeleteThe backgrounds are surrealist paintings. The paintings make women sex objects. They're exploiting that and changing the meaning.
